Change4Life

The NHS has launched the “Change4Life” campaign,
which aims to improve children’s diets and levels of activity. The
goal of the campaign is to help every family in England eat well, move
more and live longer. The website enables health and partnership
organisations to register their interest in the campaign.
NLH Commissioning Specialist Library

The National Library for Health (NLH) has
launched a pilot Commissioning Specialist Library (CSL).
The CSL aims to provide timely and efficient
access to high quality information resources for all those involved in
commissioning for health and wellbeing. It is managed by The King’s
Fund Information and Library Service and will be formally launched
towards the end of 2008. Comments or feedback about the CSL are

NLH Infections Specialist Library

The National Library for Health (NLH) has
launched the Infections Specialist Library (ISL). The ISL aims to
provide access to the best available evidence on the investigation,
prevention, treatment and control of infectious diseases from a
clinical and commissioning perspective. This is intended to keep
health professionals up to date with the best of an ever-growing
amount of infectious disease evidence.
NHS Pregnancy Care Planner

The NHS website has launched a pregnancy care
planner, which contains over 250 pages of NHS-accredited information,
including videos and interactive planning tools. There is also
information to help pregnant women choose the best maternity services
in their area.
NHS Supply2Health

NHS Supply2Health was
launched on 1 October 2008. All NHS Commissioners are now required to
post information about tendering opportunities and contract awards on
the Supply2Health website. This aims to help commissioners meet the
legal requirements to advertise and potentially increase the number of
suppliers responding to their adverts by reaching a wider audience.
The site also provides some links to best practice in the areas of:
policy, system management, world class commissioning, primary care,
and standard contracts.
NHIR Health Services Research Programme

The Department of Health has announced a new
research programme, which is intended to lead to an increase in
service quality and patient safety through better ways of planning and
providing health services. The Health Services Research (HSR)
programme aims to lead to an increase in service quality and patient

The HSR programme will fund both primary research and evidence
syntheses, depending on the availability of existing research and the
most appropriate way of responding to important knowledge gaps. The
first call for expressions of interest will be in January 2009.
ONS Regional Snapshot

The Office for National Statistics has introduced
a new resource to its website – “Regional Snapshot” provides facts and
figures about Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and each of the
English regions. This includes statistics such as population density,
mortality rate, economic activity, crime rate, and household income.
Patient Safety First Campaign

The Patient Safety First Campaign has been
created to change the culture within the NHS; to one that makes the
safety of patients the highest priority and makes all avoidable death
and harm unacceptable. The website includes information and news about
the campaign, details of five evidence-based interventions, and a
campaign support community area that individuals and organisations can
register to free-of-charge.

commissioners – the PCT Portal. The portal includes
a directory of suppliers,

Commission has recently revamped its website. Changes include more
video content from the site, for example a talk by the commission’s

The NHS Information Centre

The NHS Information Centre has introduced a new
look to its website, including changes to the homepage and
navigation. There is a bolder and brighter design to the site,
information is now grouped by theme, and there is “Where Am I?”
navigation at the top of each page. The centre would like feedback on
the new site, and have devised a short survey for this purpose:

become a single website: nhs.uk, which aims to provide all online
health information and services in one place. This has been done to
enhance the public’s experience and to avoid confusion between the two
sites.
Mental Capital and Wellbeing Project Outputs

has published the findings from the Mental Capital and Wellbeing
Project on its website. The project outputs include the final project
reports, and science synthesis reports and evidence reviews covering
future challenges in the following areas: mental capital through life,
learning through life, mental health, wellbeing and work, and learning
difficulties.
National electronic Library for Medicines

has been relaunched. This is the first stage
of a redevelopment, which aims to provide greater flexibility and the
