Working Together, Learning Together: A Framework For Lifelong Learning In The NHS http://www.doh.gov.uk/lifelonglearning/workingtogether.pdf sets out the characteristics of an effective learning organisation and emphasises the need for NHS staff to take responsibility to develop and to participate in lifelong learning.  It also sets the vision for the NHSU.

 

NHS Plan http://www.nhs.uk/nationalplan/ gives the agenda for investment in the NHS, including increased funding for developing the skills of NHS staff and for supporting Individual Learning Accounts.

NHS University http://www.nhsu.nhs.uk/ is due to launch in autumn 2003.  It is set up by the Government to support the modernisation of the NHS.  The principles of its development and operation include access, relevance, choice, support for learners and learning, equity, multi-professional working and quality.

 

Public Health Education Brokering www.education-brokering.org.uk offers a database of educational opportunities and advice on flexible learning routes and access to a mentorship programme in public health skills.  It was originally set up to help NHS staff in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, and has rolled out to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

 

Open University www.open.ac.uk provides e-learning courses and services, and promotes e-learning research and partnership.

Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards http://www.cetis.ac.uk/ advises universities and colleges on the strategic, technical and pedagogic implications of educational technology standards.  It provides an overview on e-learning standards.

 

The MASIE Centre http://www.masie.com is a US collaboration focused on implementing e-learning.  It offers research reports and standards information on e-learning technology.

 

Diffus: Electronic Learning Standards http://www.diffuse.org/eLearning.html aims to provide a single, value-added, entry point to up-to-date reference and guidance information on available and emerging standards and specifications that facilitate the electronic exchange of information.

Addenbrook’s NHS Trust in Cambridge http://www.health-cpd.org.uk/e-learn.html dedicates a web page listing e-learning resources that are freely accessible. These resources range from brief tutorials and seminars to courses leading to a recognised qualification and cover a wide range of clinical specialties.
