Collaborative
Working
Across
Europe:
Experience
from
Practice
Christine Goodair,
Head of Website & Information Services,
DrugScope
This article,
based on a
presentation given at the CILIP Health Libraries Group 2006 annual
conference at Eastbourne, explores the lessons learnt from
working on two co-operative, web-based European projects in the
field of addictions information. The paper will draw on these
experiences to highlight the learning from the EELDA project to
establish an evidence-based website on drug addiction, and from
the ELISAD Internet Gateway describing over 900 evaluated European
website resources on addictions. Issues covered include the
background to the projects, funding, project management, working
styles across different professions, skills development, language
and culture, professional matters such as developing a taxonomy in
English for use in fourteen languages, benefits and barriers, and
key observations regarding how to make partnerships work.

Information
Service
Donna Johnstone,
RDInfo
RDInfo
is a trio of information services funded by the Department of
Health. RDInfo provides access to details on
health-related research funding opportunities via the RDFunding
website. RDLearning lists health-related training opportunities
with an emphasis on research, ranging from postgraduate courses in
higher education institutions to local workshops run by NHS Trusts
and Research and Development Support Units. RDDirect, is a
telephone signposting service pointing researchers who need
assistance to the best possible sources of advice and
information. RDInfo is there to help researchers at all
stages of research and when searching the Internet is the
one-stop-shop for information on research funding, training and
advice. Visit

Using
e-learning for R&D Skills Training
Steve Wright,
Learning Technologist,
Institute for Health Research
This article introduces the theoretical background to the Health
R&D North West (HRDNoW) research skills e-learning programme. It
draws on Anderson and Krathwohls revisions to Blooms Taxonomy of
Educational Objectives in order to contextualise the potential and
use of computer based training and networked learning and
specifically their application to research skills training.
The
model of the taxonomy is applied to HRDNoW’s research training
support, which is divided into three levels. The use of e-learning
is then outlined at each level. This includes the use of how to
presentations and demonstrations to build research knowledge and
awareness at novice level, support for face-to-face
training sessions and delivery of online courses through a virtual
learning environment (VLE) at intermediate level, and the
use of the VLE as a space for individual and small group research
mentoring at advanced level.
This paper expands upon the presentation Using e-learning for R&D
Skills Training given at the Trent RDSU ’Best Research for Best
Health' Conference, held at the University of Leicester, 22nd
November 2006.
