This issue contains three articles based on presentations given
at the IFM Study Day : First things first! - information to meet the changing
needs of primary care which was held in Leeds in November 2001.
Primary Care Groups and Trusts: modernising the
NHS? David Wilkin, Professor of Health Services Research,
National Primary Care Research & Development Centtre, University of
Manchester
Explores the extent to which PCG/Ts are beginning to deliver
modernisation of primary care provision, and the extent to which their
information systems are able to support the process of development and
modernisation. Draws on the findings of the National Tracker Survey of PCG/Ts, a
longitudinal survey of 72 of the 481 PCGs established in 1999.
How may library and information services be developed to
support primary care teams? Current issues and ways forward Steve
Rose, Library and Infromation Services manager, HSMC, University of
Birmingham This paper focuses on two projects which looked at the
information needs of primary care staff; a pilot project within a PCG in
Birmingham and needs analysis work undertaken with primary care managers within
the Birmingham and Solihull area of the West Midlands South Workforce
Development Confederation..
Information to primary care Lynda Cox, Librarian,
Northumberland Health Authority This article describes a library service
established as part of the Northumberland Primary Care Partnership, a "virtual"
organisation, set up in 1997 by Northumberland Health Authority and
Northumberland Community Health Trust, to support and develop primary care.
