From virtual to reality : the development of the NeLH

[Based on a presentation given at the IFM Study Day : From Information to Health to Building the Information Core : 25 April 2001.]  Three years ago, Information for Health set in motion the development of the National electronic Library for Health (NeLH).  Commissioned by the NHS Executive Information Policy Unit, the NHS Information Authority was given the task of delivering the NeLH.  This article outlines the achievements of the NeLH programme to date and the work in progress.

Implementing the NHS information strategy : a Northern and Yorkshire perspective.

This paper describes the process that the Northern and Yorkshire Regional Library Advisory Service (RLAS) undertook, in developing Library and Information Services (LaIS) as part of Information for Health, the national information strategy. It lists the types of initiatives that have been funded through IM&T investment, and describes the importance of both an effective patch library strategy group and of developing close links with the IM&T community at all levels.

Information for Health : the library perspective in Leeds

This article describes the work which is being driven forward in Leeds by a city-wide Library Development Group to support Information for Health.  It details the establishment of the group, its work streams, the Northern and Yorkshire regional library database deal, a Practice Nurse Project which takes information to primary care nurse practitioners and the appointment of a Library and Information Support Officer within the Library Development Group.

Information for Health and the role of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Education and Training Consortium

This paper provides a brief overview of the role and development of education and training consortia, and an assessment of the impact of employing consortia librarians, a strategy adopted by the West Midlands Regional Librarian, Pam Prior. It looks in particular at the role of  the consortium librarian in Herefordshire and Worcestershire in securing funding from Information for Health in Worcestershire and at the range and type of projects supported.  Lastly, it considers the implications of the change from consortia to workforce development confederations in terms of the impacts on library services.
